In Texas, there are few things more serious than football.
Don’t believe us? A father has filed a formal bullying complaint against the Aledo High School football coach after the team’s 91-0 victory over Fort Worth’s Western Hills.
The parent accuses coach Tim Buchanan of running up the score, a claim which Buchanan vehemently denies.
“I would never ask our kids not to play hard,” he said. “I would never tell them, ‘Go out and let them score.’ That’s not what you want to teach kids.”
However, after half time, Buchanan swapped in the second string, allowed the clock to run, and instructed his players to make fair catch signals in order to slow down their scoring spree.
“You don’t want to embarrass… I’ve been on the other side of those scores,” Coach Buchanan explained. “In 2011, Lake Travis scored 62 points on us. That doesn’t feel good. It doesn’t make the kids feel good.”
School officials are confident that the team is not guilty of bullying, but are fully investigating the complaint just like any other.
