Blake Shelton may have a three-peat under his belt, but he better watch his back this season if Christina Aguilera has anything to say about it!

The Voice coach set the bar high right at the top of the show with her own performance alongside newcomers A Great Big World.

“Say Something” climbed all the way to #2 on the iTunes chart just hours after the episode aired on the East Coast.

“Normally, she’s at the center of attention and she’s dressed up and she’s dancing and she’s going crazy and she’s belting and here she was in a skull cap and jeans and it looked like she was in the recording studio helping out these two guys from New York who make up A Great Big World and this great new song,” Carson said.

“She’s just kind of there sort of accenting their song. She wasn’t stealing the center stage, which I thought was such a good look for her.”

Xtina’s team didn’t disappoint either. Matthew Schuler put his own personal spin on the Miley Cyrus hit, ‘Wrecking Ball.’

“He holds the record for the quickest four-chair turn ever from the blind auditions,” Carson recalled. “I don’t know how it played on TV, but in the room, he murdered it.”

On Monday’s episode, the coaches were criticized for being too complimentary, but Carson felt Tuesday’s playoffs displayed a better balance of praise and useful advice.

“We’re always nice to our artists, which is what we want the show to be. Nice. You know, but it can’t be too nice. It still has to be constructive criticism there.”

The Voice closed the evening with a standout performance from one of its youngest vocalists, Jacquie Lee. She brought the audience to its feet with her enchanting rendition of “I Put A Spell On You.”

“I can’t believe she’s 16 and she can sing like that,” Producer Angie raved.

“You don’t even know she has it in her to sing like that,” Carson agreed.

The top 12 will be revealed Thursday night at 8pm PT on NBC.
