Across the nation, Americans are commemorating Veterans Day with parades, ceremonies, monument dedications, and many more events.
President Obama said in his weekend radio address that Veterans Day is a chance for all Americans “to say two simple words: ‘Thank you.’”
“Thank you to that greatest generation who fought island by island across the Pacific, and freed millions from fascism in Europe,” he continued. “Thank you to the heroes who risked everything through the bitter cold of Korea and the stifling heat of Vietnam. And thank you to all the heroes who have served since, most recently our 9/11 Generation of veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan.”
In honor of Veterans Day, businesses across the country are offering discounts and deals to show their gratitude to those who have served in the U.S. military. We have a list of some of those local offers here.
Everyone should take a moment today to thank a veteran you come across, or your friends and family who have served.
One thing I like doing is to watch a movie about the lives of people who serve. It’s not just those in the field who serve, but many people behind the scenes including military families.
Not really much in the way of honoring them, but it’s taking a moment to think about all that the men and women who have served and are serving do.
There’s a list of great movies to watch like Saving Private Ryan, but one that was pretty emotional for me to watch was last year’s Zero Dark Thirty.
