Now that the live shows have officially gotten underway on The Voice, the fate of the twelve remaining artists no longer rests in the hands of their coaches.
It’s America’s turn to vote for their favorite, which means the contestants really had to bring their A-game to the stage Monday night.
In fact, all us Voice fans have even more power this season with the brand new “instant save.”
Here’s the deal. Towards the end of tonight’s show, Carson will reveal the bottom three vote-getters.
Then when he gives the go-ahead, you can tweet the hashtag #VoiceSave, along with the name of the contestant you want to keep on the show. After five minutes, the artist with the most mentions gets spared from the chopping block.
“It’s cool just to turn over the reins of the show to the audience,” Carson said earlier this morning. “Like, here’s three people. They’re all going to go home. You can save one right this second.”
You can still participate even if you don’t watch the show live during Eastern Standard Time. All you have to do is follow The Voice Twitter handle and they will publish the names of the bottom three at the exact time it’s announced live on the East Coast.
“Now, you’re obviously not watching the show,” Carson explained. “But you can impact the vote.”
After Monday’s incredible performances, Carson has no clue who may end up in that bottom three. He was particularly moved by Matthew Schuler’s rendition of “Hallelujah.”
“Showing some real range,” he told Producer Angie. “Maybe one of the standout performers. He’s been called a frontrunner, but boy, there are twelve, going to be ten after tonight’s elimination. You’d be hard-pressed to figure out who’s going to be on the bottom three for that instant save.”
If iTunes sales are any indication, Matthew has nothing to worry about. He’s currently sitting at #2 on the singles charts.
“I did not expect that song to come out of his mouth!” Producer Angie admitted. “And when he started singing it, he killed it!”
“He handled the R&B part of it really, really well. I agree,” Carson added.
Don’t forget to watch tonight’s elimination at 9pm PT and keep an eye on Twitter starting at 6pm PT to participate in the “Instant Save!”
