Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Lights Torch In Remembrance Of JFK Assassination

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

He was shot to death while driving through the streets of Dallas, Texas, but memorials in honor of JFK are taking place all across the country today, including right here in Los Angeles.

The LA Memorial Coliseum’s torch was lit at 12:01 a.m. this morning in his memory. The flame will remain burning for 24 hours during a national day of remembrance.

Kennedy famously spoke at the stadium in 1960 while accepting his party’s nomination at the 1960 Democratic National Convention.

Beginning at 10:38 a.m. PT, CBSNews.com will broadcast a live stream of the original coverage as it aired back in 1963. It begins at 10:38 a.m. PT
