Amazon Flying Drone Delivery Is A Real Thing

It’s the year 2013. We figured by now we’d be living like The Jetsons with flying cars and space-age smart homes, but it seems those predictions were a tad premature…UNTIL NOW.

During an interview on Sunday’s 60 Minutes Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon, announced that plans are in the works for unmanned drones to deliver your packages within 30 minutes or less.

Packages weighing five pounds or less will be eligible for Prime Air. The package will be picked up from the warehouse by one of Amazons “octocopters” and then it will take off to their destination based on the GPS coordinates you provide.

Extensive testing and FAA compliance is still required, but Bezos estimates the drones to be “fully autonomous and in operation within four or five years.”

Check out a preview of Prime Air below. We’re crazy excited and terrified at the same time.
