Deaf NFL Player Derrick Coleman Responds To Young Fan’s Letter

Last week, our very own Surfer Stephen introduced us to an incredible new Duracell commercial featuring Seattle Seahawks player Derrick Coleman.

The fullback was born deaf, but went on to play at UCLA and eventually the Super Bowl-bound Seahawks.

The viral commercial made quite an impact on two of his youngest fans, identical 9-year-old twin sisters Riley and Erin Kovalcik, who are also hearing-impaired.

Riley sent Coleman a handwritten letter of encouragement, which her father also posted online:

“I know how you feel,” Riley wrote to Coleman.  “I also have hearing aids.  Just try your best. I have faif [sic] in you.”

Coleman, who’s a tad busy right now preparing for the game of his life, took the time to personally respond. What a class act!

“Even though we wear hearing aids,” he explained. “We can still accomplish our goals and dreams!”

Seriously? Could this story be any more uplifting? Someone grab us a box of tissues!
