Thursday night, Jay Leno bid farewell to the show he’s called home for the past 22 years.
Leno may be a comedian, but yesterday’s goodbye didn’t come without a few tears along the way.
“First year of this show, I lost my mom. Second year, I lost my dad, then my brother,” Leno said as tears welled up in his eyes. “After that, I was pretty much out of family and the folks here became my family.”
He went on to thank his union crew for their years of service and expressed how proud and grateful he was to have this opportunity.
“This has been the greatest 22 years of my life. I am the luckiest guy in the world, I got to meet presidents, astronauts, movie stars. It’s just been incredible.”
To conclude, Leno borrowed a line from former Tonight Show great, Johnny Carson.
“I want to quote Johnny Carson, who was the greatest guy to ever do this job. I bid you all a heartfelt goodnight.”
