It’s crazy to think that anyone would criticize Bruno Mars for his spectacular Half Time Show at the Super Bowl. We were on our Facebook and Twitter pages during and after the performance, and the majority of what we saw were people being blown away by it.
Call us naive, but we somehow missed the critics. Maybe we just love him so much we didn’t care to see it.
Regardless, it turns out that the New York Times wrote an article about it, and what they had to say was not so favorable.
One of their issues was that he wasn’t a ‘big enough star’ to have performed, and that because he isn’t all over tabloid magazines while also pushing a fragrance, he shouldn’t have been the entertainment for the evening.
His response to Ellen was pretty powerful.
“That was by far was the most disgusting thing I think I’ve heard. Not because it was taking a shot at me. I was just thinking about aspiring young musicians, who want to do this. And even hearing that you need a fragrance or something like that…”
He then goes on to make an amazing speech directed towards those young fans. It starts at about 4:55, and we think you need to hear it from him.
