During an incredible speech at the Human Rights Campaign inaugural Time to Thrive conference, actress Ellen Page came out.
Her moving, powerful and thoughtful words spoke of what it means to be young, different, and struggling in a world where many things are not accepted, and often times people are hurt, taunted and treated in awful ways for being who they are.
Towards the end of her speech, she finally told the world a secret that she’d been hiding from the public for a long time, that she is in fact a lesbian.
“I’m here today because I am gay… I am tired of hiding and I am tired of lying by omission. I suffered for years because I was scared to be out. My spirit suffered, my mental health suffered and my relationships suffered. And I’m standing here today, with all of you, on the other side of all that pain.”
