It’s been a long time since we’ve seen anything positive from the Lakers. Now we’ve finally got something to cheer about, but it’s not actually about the Lakers.
Jason Collins became the first active, openly gay athlete in all four major sports when he checked in for the Brooklyn Nets Sunday at the STAPLES Center.
Jason was met with a great applause from the fans in attendance.
Collins revealed his sexual orientation on the cover of Sports Illustrated last April and had this to say about his experience, “Life is so much better for me. I don’t have to hide who I am. Just be my normal self,” Collins said.
“The past 10 months have been incredible. A lot of really cool experiences, learning a lot, making new friends and hearing peoples’ stories. Overall, it’s been really positive.”
Not only does Jason make history as a professional athlete, he also sets an example of courage for others in a world filled with small minded people. His courage is like a domino effect, giving others that same strength to be who they are.
“Be your true, authentic self and never be afraid or ashamed or have any fear to be your true authentic self.” Collins said.
