The blind auditions came to a close last week, which means The Voice has moved on to the next stage…the battle rounds!

During this portion of the singing competition, each coach pits two of their own team members against each other.

The artists face off in a literal boxing ring and sing for their lives. Only one survives each sing off unless another coach steals them away.

“You spend all this time just building up a team and now it’s time to really whittle it down and take your best people into the live shows,” Carson explained earlier this morning (March 18).

Carson described these match-ups as a “torturous process,” but we love the battles, mainly because we giggle every time we hear our host with the most exclaim, “We have a steal!” every 10 minutes.

“I lose my voice every time, but it’s so much fun.”

We’re still weeks away from the live shows, but Carson’s already talking odds and strategy.

Adam does so [well], almost to a disservice, he does so well in the blind auditions that he ultimately puts really good people against each other and he can only pick one.”

“And he’s sending people home who could maybe go all the way,” Producer Angie chimed in.

But guess what? None of Team Adam’s original team members were sent home last night. That’s because Shakira snatched up Patrick Thomson for her first steal of the competition.

The battles continue tonight at 9pm on NBC. Keep an ear out for a very special announcement from the Emmy Award-winning show:
