Santa Monica High School Wrestling Coach Fights Student
A Santa Monica High School teacher has been placed on administrative leave after being caught on tape fighting a student in a classroom.
When Mark Black, who is also a wrestling coach, confronted a student who was allegedly selling marijuana in the classroom, the teenager punched Black in the face.
The altercation was caught on cell phone video and shows Black wrestling the student to the ground, possibly in self-defense.
“I can tell you that what I witnessed on one of those videos is utterly alarming,” Superintendent Sandra Lyon wrote in the letter sent home to parents.
No one was seriously injured. Black’s future at the school is up in the air until Santa Monica Police complete its independent investigation.
