Carson Daly Reacts: Stephen Colbert Named David Letterman’s “Late Show” Successor

By now, you’ve probably heard that Stephen Colbert will replace David Letterman as the host of The Late Show when Dave retires in 2015.

As a fellow late night talk show host, Carson had a lot to say about this breaking news.

“How is this going to work?” Carson asked aloud. “Is he going to be the character Stephen Colbert that he is on The Colbert Report, or, are we going to get to know another Stephen Colbert who, every single night, will be in our living room and will have to, at times, be non-character and poignant when the world is, you know, tough like 9/11?”

Colbert plays the role of an over-the-top conservative pundit on his current talk show, however, he told a New York Times reporter that he will be dropping the act when he transitions over to CBS.

“Who is Stephen Colbert? That’s the $20 million dollar question,” Carson continued.

Carson just so happens to share an agent with the newly crowned CBS host.

“James ‘Babydoll’ Dixon now represents Jimmy Kimmel at 11:30 on ABC and now Stephen Colbert he’ll represent opposite Jimmy on CBS. Wow, wow, wow. That sneaky devil! James ‘Babydoll’ Dixon, maybe he’s the biggest winner of them all in this deal?”
