Team Adam’s Christina Grimmie was considered the odds-on favorite thanks to her strong social media following.
“People were shocked. There was an audible gasp in the room when I said, ‘And the third finalist is…Christina Grimmie,'” Carson described.
But don’t cry too hard for Christina. Coach Adam Levine had already promised that win or lose, he was going to sign her to his own record label.
“Sometimes it’s better to not win, in a weird way, because if you come in second or third, Jennifer Hudson comes to mind, she went on to win Oscars and GRAMMYs,” Carson explained. “Christina Grimmie and Jake are both waking up this morning with the ability to get anyone on the phone or go into a meeting at a record label, you know, start to work on an album. They have all the entrees in Hollywood with zero pressure.”
In addition to the nail-biting results, the finale of season six was also jam-packed with celebrity performances, including the very memorable Robin Thicke singing an ode to his estranged wife with a little help from the season six champ.
“You know, my favorite part about The Voice finale,” Carson shared. “Was Robin Thicke and Josh Kaufman singing this song that Robin wrote for his wife, Paula, who he’s trying to get back…I kept singing this over and over again last night.”
Will the “Blurred Lines” crooner be able to woo his wife back with Tuesday’s very public apology? Producer Angie’s not so sure.
“A song doesn’t make everything alright,” she argued.
We’ll let you all be the judge. Check out the performance below:
And that’s a wrap! Season six is dunzo, but if you’re suffering from a serious case of Voice withdrawal, you won’t be kept waiting for long. Carson will begin filming the blind auditions for season 7 in just two weeks with newbies Pharrell Williams and Gwen Stefani!
