Singing Nun Wins The Voice Italy
We first told you about Sister Cristina Scuccia a few months ago, when the singing nun earned a four-chair turn on Italy’s version of The Voice.
She became a global sensation after her blind audition racked up more than 50 million hits on YouTube, so it comes as no surprise that she easily won the competition with 62.3% of the vote.
Scuccia thanked “the man upstairs” for her success and then recited the Lord’s Prayer on stage.
Her prize package includes a recording contract with Universal, but during a news conference, Sister Cristina said she will return to her humble church choir if that’s what her superiors order her to do.
Her coach, 41-year-old Italian rapper J-Ax, hopes the nun will record an album, but told the media she won’t be profiting off her win.
“It’s a great opportunity,” he said. “But the earnings, all the earnings have to be earmarked to build a hospital or an orphanage in Brazil,” where Sister Cristina worked with poor children. “No one can earn a penny from it,” he said.
