Producer Angie swung by Islands the other night to pick up some dinner from her family and she didn’t even think twice before plunking down a tip for the staff.
That’s why she was caught off guard when another patron told her you don’t tip for takeout. Unlike when you sit down at a restaurant, there’s no waiter tending to your family, refilling your drinks, assuring your satisfaction, etc.
But is shortchanging the kitchen proper etiquette? Carson and Angie got into a huge discussion over what you do and don’t tip for.
“If you’re in doubt, you should tip,” Carson said. “So the cheap guy you met at Islands, shame on you, whoever you are. Joe Cheapo! Because the truth is if anybody went to any effort for you, it should be recognized, especially in the service industry, period.”
