Beer. This frothy primordial libation has been leaving lips lined with foam throughout all of recorded human history. It was chugged by Assyrians, Babylonians, Egyptians and been a staple in American backyard cookouts since colonial times.

Americans love beer. As we celebrate our independence, break free from the confines of convention and honor the beloved “brewski” with swigs of revolutionary suds.

Turn your homies onto these ten unique microbrews at your summer rager.

BACON MAPLE ALE

Inspired by the devilishly zany concoctions at Portland, Oregon’s Voodoo Doughnuts, Rogue Ales unleashed what is arguable the beast of all beers: The Bacon Maple Ale. Beer and bacon? Rogue Ales has delivered the nectar of the gods. Pig out and slurp up some suds from here.

BEARD BEER

Doesn’t get any more homegrown than a beer brewed from yeast that originated from its brewer’s own bushy facial hair. Yes, that’s right. Beer made from a beard. Don’t knock it till you try it! Be the first one to boast The Beard Beer at your summer party. Get some froth on your fierce facial hair here.

BANANA NUT ALE

Take it to the tropics with the fruit flavor of banana and a nutty English ale with Andean Brewing Company’s Kuka Banana Nut Ale. This caramel colored goodie tastes like banana nut bread with hints of chocolate and coffee. This brew is an ideal breakfast the morning after your all-nighter. Go bananas ( and get a little nutty) here.

EVIL TWIN ASHTRAY

This smoky tan brew would pair beautifully with your grilled goodies. The aroma of roasted soy and tinge of leather gives way to the subtle flavor of bacon, coffee and cocoa. Evil Twin Brewery’s Ashtray Heart is a rich and sexy stout that totally deserves a slot in your cooler. It’s also named after a Placebo song which gives it a little rock ‘n’ roll edge. Give up smoking? Pick up another vice here.

CRÈME BRULÉE BEER

Creamy, frothy and sweet, Southern Tier’s Crème Brûlée Beer would make for an unforgettable beer float. This smooth stout is as romantic and decadent as the French custard that inspired it. The flavors of vanilla and burnt sugar are expressed perfectly. Satisfy your sophisticated sweet tooth here.

21st AMENDMENT HELL OR HIGH WATERMELON

If you don’t already love this beer for its name sake, then you’ll definitely dig the refreshing taste of watermelon in this summer ale. 21st Amendment Brewery’s Hell or High Watermelon is an
All-American wheat beer from a brewery that boldly boasts the repeal of prohibition on its labels. Keep it cool poolside with this funky fruit fusion. Feelin’ fun and fruity? Keep it refreshing all summer long here.

LONG STRANGE TRIPEL

This light and bubbly amber is a beguiling brew that tantalizes your taste buds with sugar and spice, fruits and cloves, layering those flavors over the malty taste of bread dough. Boulevard Brewing Company’s Long Strange Tripel is a total gulper. Lounge and chill out with this hippie hop at your psychedelic summer shindig. Keep on buzzin’ here.

MAMA MIA PIZZA BEER

Pizza and beer have long endured as faithful companions in a meal but now you can enjoy the novelty of an all-in-one with Mama Mia’s Pizza Beer. Two American faves merge in this configuration of tomato, oregano, basil, a hint of garlic and hops. Pizza Beer is legit. Get the world’s favorite food and beverage combo in one sudsy sip here.

CHILI PEPPER BEER

Hot and spicy, this bold peppery golden brew is not your typical beer. With a chili pepper chillin’ at the bottom of the bottle, you can expect to feel a scorching singe from its suds. Squeeze some limes into a bottle of Cave Creek Chili Beer and have enjoy this bad boy with some nachos. Listen to some Red Hot Chili Peppers with an appropriately named beer from here.

COCONUT CURRY HEFEWEIZEN

New Belgium’s Lips of Faith Coconut-Curry Hefeweizen is a pleasantly exotic brew that introduces the spices of the East to the smooth Bavarian wheat beer. Layers of coriander, cinnamon, cayenne, malt, coconut and lime come together nicely in this refreshing and curious concoction. Get some here and pair with a samosa. Trust us.
