Nicki Minaj is back with her newest single, shortly after delaying it for a new remix of Beyonce’s “Flawless.”
“Anaconda” is built around a sample of Sir Mix-a-Lot‘s “Baby Got Back,” which makes sense now given the title of “Anaconda” but wasn’t exactly a for-sure move on her part until the song was leaked. Mostly, it uses the “My anaconda don’t want none unless you got buns, hon” line and brings it back throughout the song, along with the original’s horns.
Meanwhile, Minaj is focused solely on her rapping, which holds with the concept of The Pink Print, her upcoming new album, as a return to form of sorts, shedding the singing voice she sometimes utilized (and still does, to an extent) to instead throw down like the old days.
It marks the second high profile release for Minaj, who appears along with Jessie J and Ariana Grande on “Bang Bang,” out earlier this week.
