Chris Martin is Back to Writing Songs for Rihanna

“Princess of China” may not be Chris Martin of Coldplay‘s only collaboration with pop princess Rihanna.

In an interview with Fresh 102.7/New York (a CBS Radio station), Martin revealed he’d been trying his hand at writing a new track for Rihanna.

But even an award-winning, chart topping songwriter like Martin isn’t a shoo-in. He said he didn’t know if we’d be hearing his work for her. Martin told Maxim he was rejected by Beyoncé’s A&R team back in 2010, pre his “Princess of China” success.

“She has so many amazing people writing for her. It’s like trying to win American Idol, getting a song on Rihanna’s album,” Martin said.

He said the exercise of writing for Rihanna was a “busman’s holiday” — meaning he was meant to be on a break from work and decided to spend that time in the studio writing songs.
