LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — After catching the final out in the Dodgers 8-2 win over the New York Yankees Monday night, Yasiel Puig, as many big leaguers do, threw the ball into a crowd of fans asking for the final game ball.
What Puig didn’t anticipate was that he would knock out a Dodger fan’s tooth.
Alyssa Gerharter was in attendance for L.A.’s win over the Yankees, and after the game she was in the crowd calling Puig’s name and asking for the ball.
In an attempt to snag the ball, Gerharter’s front tooth was knocked out of her mouth, prompting Yankee Stadium ushers to lead her to the first aid room, and eventually the ER.
“I saw it coming at me and I remember thinking, ‘I don’t have a glove to catch this ball,’” Gerharter told the Daily News.
“And I think I put my hands up in front of my face. I saw it was coming at me and registered that it was coming at me, and I felt it hit me. It wasn’t so much painful as it was shock. So I felt it hit me and I could feel immediately with my tongue there’s a hole. And I looked down at my hand and saw there’s a tooth in my hand.”
