Don’t Fall For These Black Friday Mistakes

By Sarah Carroll

It’s so tempting to buy, buy, buy on Black Friday, but the deals can be deceiving!

Before you start lining up outside of Best Buy for those doorbusters, there’s a few things you should know.

The website Business Insider came up with 7 kinds of deals you shouldn’t fall for on Black Friday.

  1. Deals on no-name or poorly-rated products: You get what you pay for…so don’t be surprised when your new tablet goes on the fritz a few months later.
  2. Discounts on TVs manufactured specifically for Black Friday: We didn’t even know this was a thing! Apparently, these TVs tend to be lower-quality and have less features. Business Insider suggests waiting to splurge on a new TV until the Super Bowl sales.
  3. Limited-quantity doorbusters: These deals will likely run out within minutes, so unless you feel like camping outside for the first spot in line, it’s not worth your time.
  4. Discounts on outdated products that already offer newer models: Go ahead and buy the older model if it has all the features you want, but make sure you do your homework before buying. Is it a legitimately a good deal if there’s a newer model already on the market?
  5. Black Friday deals people will be fighting over: No one wants to go home with broken bones and black eyes. Avoid the drama by shopping from the comfort of your own home on Cyber Monday.
  6. Mediocre deals that will be offered during other times of the year: The lines at the mall are going to be brutal, so why wait for hours just to get 20% off? You’re likely to find similar sales and less crowds during other times of the year.
  7. Black Friday specials that are also offered online: Spend more time with your family…if you’re not sick of them already!
